Frequently Asked Questions

How does coaching work?
During coaching, we will set some initial goals and you will begin to work on actions to carry you toward your goal. The client chooses the goals, and the coach provides support and structure as you do the work and learn the skills required to meet your goal. The magic actually happens BETWEEN our appointments.  The actions you take, and the check-ins we have together throughout the week, keep you on track.

Does there need to be an ADHD diagnosis in order to be coached?
No, not at all.  Anyone who wants help setting goals and learning the skills to move forward can benefit from coaching.

What sorts of goals can I set?
The list is limitless.  The goals are your own.  If you don't have specific goals when we start, we can brainstorm some areas you would like to work on, and translate those into specific, attainable goals with actions steps. Any goal is worth exploring as long as it is legal, makes something in your life work better, and brings you joy.  Examples could include things like, "I'd like to stop procrastinating on big projects," but could also include, "Learn to play a new instrument."

How often do we meet?
We will meet once a week for 30-60 minutes, often via Zoom, FaceTime, or phone.

What happens between meetings?
Between meetings we have frequent “check-ins” for accountability. The check-ins help keep you on track and moving toward your goals. The form and timing of the check-ins are agreed on by us both. Different check-ins work for different clients.

How many meetings will we have?
Coaching is a chance to build skills and habits that you will carry forward with once coaching ends.  It won't happen overnight.  I ask my clients to commit to at least three months of coaching, but a full semester is a good rule of thumb for most students. Some students stick with coaching for multiple semesters.

Is coaching covered by insurance?
No, coaching is not covered by insurance and cannot typically be paid for using HSA or FSA accounts.

How do we get started?
First, we schedule a free Welcome Session in which the coach, student and parents (unless the student is in college) get acquainted, ask questions, and assess everyone’s readiness for coaching. This is your chance to ask questions about how this works, who does what, are we a good fit, do our schedules match up. If we decide to move forward we schedule a longer “Foundation Session” in which we exchange more specific information, agree on roles, and begin to set goals. We begin to build the foundation of our coaching relationship in this appointment.

How are we billed for our sessions?
Once you have selected a package, you will receive an invoice.  You can choose to pay for the full package, or make monthly payments.
